YOU CAN COUNT ON CEREALS is a softcover vintage cooking booklet published by General Foods Corporation in 1948 to promote Post's Cereals, a Division of General Foods.
The booklet provided the homemaker information on the economical and nutritional value of packaged cereals as well as suggested breakfast foods, balanced breakfast menus, and breakfast "tricks" using cereals. Several pages are devoted to educating the consumer on Post's Cereals--Toasties, Bran Flakes, Raisin Bran, and Grape-Nuts, including what grains are used and how the cereals are produced.
Also included are a handful of recipes using cereal as an ingredient such as Breakfast Muffins, Caramel Balls, Fish Batter, and Salted Peanut Cookies, and more. The 24-page book is filled with black and white photographs and measures 8 ¼” high by 5 ½” wide and appears to be rarely used. The initials JM are written on the cover's top left corner.
The booklet is a great example of mid-century American retail advertising when store, food products, and new appliance promotions included branded cookbooks, recipe pamphlets and booklets as give-aways.
