WHAT MAKES JELLY "JELL"? is a softcover vintage recipe booklet published by General Foods Corporation in 1945. The recipe booklet is a great example of mid-century American retail advertising when store, food products, and new appliance promotions included branded cookbooks, recipe pamphlets and booklets as give-aways.
This jelly-making handbook includes four lessons on making jellies and jams using Certo and Sure-Jell. The introduction states the handbook will explain the "how" and "why" to become a better jelly maker, whether the cook is an experienced homemaker or a beginner. The lessons and recipes are written in a step-by-step format and many include a photograph for each step.
The 24-page softcover book is filled with colorful vintage illustrations and black/white photographs. It measures 8 ¼” high by 5 ½” wide and is very good condition and appears to be unused. The initials JM are written on the cover's top left corner.
