About John Thompson: John Sylvanus Thompson (1889 - 1963) was an American pianist, composer, and educator hailing from Williamstown, Pennsylvania. In July 1909, he acquired a passport in preparation for an European concert tour, although illness and WWI unrest forced his homecoming to the US in April 1914. He later married Loretta Katherine Foy and relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where he taught piano, and raised two sons, John Jr. (1918) and Charles Leslie (1924). Thompson served as music conservatory head in Philadelphia, Indianapolis, and Kansas City; his piano methods are published by the Willis Music Company. He passed away from a prolonged illness in Tucson, Arizona in 1963.
