A rare* copy of SEA IDYL for the Piano composed by Opal Louise Hayes and published by the Oliver Ditson Company of Philadelphia in 1947. Hayes dedicated SEA IDYL for the Piano to Catherine Babcock Coghill, a student at Central Methodist University.
Opal Louise Hayes was the Associate Professor of Piano from 1925 to 1960 at Central, formerly Howard-Payne Junior College in Fayette, Missouri, where she graduated in 1912. She later earned the school's Distinguished Alumni Award for her work as a teacher and composer.
It is said that the ghost of Hayes, sometimes joins her friend and fellow dean, Nannie Louise Wright, in Recital Hall for a piano duet. Wright, known as one of the college's residence ghosts, unfortunately, passed away during a performance in 1958.
Perfect for framing, the cover art depicts Neptune reclining on a shell throne, with a mermaid at play and fish in the background. The sheet music is in good condition considering its age. There is a small tear on the cover edge and a minor stain on the front cover and pencil notes inside. Packaged in a protective sleeve, this hard-to-find half-fold sheet music is well-preserved.
*World Catalog the world's largest library catalog does not show the SEA IDYL for the Piano by Hayes on the the shelves in any of their libraries. Fine Art America has reproduced the cover art for posters and home decor items.
