River Road Recipes II, A Second Helping is a regional cookbook, released in 1976 by the Junior League of Baton Rouge and recipient of the Walter McIlhenny Community Cookbook Hall of Fame Award.

Part of the bestselling community cookbook series, River Road Recipes, the series has received high praise from peers, professional editors, and readers alike. Craig Claiborne, author of A Feast Made for Laughter, called River Road Recipes "one of America's finest and most impressive regional cookbooks," while the New York Times states, "If there were Academy Awards for community cookbooks, River Road Recipes would undoubtedly take home top honors."

More than 600 recipes for authentic gumbos, jambalayas, courts-bouillons, pralines, and more fill the pages of RIVER ROAD RECIPES II: A Second Helping, including favorites like Crawfish Bisque, Garlic Cheese Grits, Spinach Crêpes Florentine, Old Fashioned Lemon Pie, Black-eyed Peas Sausage Jambalaya and Shrimp Creole.

The comb bound book is in good condition other than a tear in the middle of the back cover (see images). There are no notes or writing inside and it appears to be unread.

Community cookbooks are more than just recipe collections; they offer a unique look into American society and culture of the past...

Originally created and used by women's groups for charitable purposes, these cookbooks contain valuable information on cooking techniques, kitchen tools, and household advice. They also serve as unofficial historical records, providing insight into the norms and values of the time period.

The first of these charity cookbooks in America, A Poetical Cookbook by Maria J. Moss, was published in 1864 to raise funds for injured Union soldiers during the Civil War.

Today, community cookbooks continue to be successful fundraisers for Junior Leagues, church groups, school organizations, hospital auxiliaries and other charitable groups across the country.
