RECIPES: Wyoming High School
Wyoming, Ohio
Student Cookbook
Circa 1980

In 1980, students at Wyoming High School in Wyoming, Ohio published a cookbook, RECIPES: Wyoming High School, featuring 33 delectable recipes. This project allowed students who may have been members of the art club or a graphic design class to demonstrate their hand-lettering skills while providing a savory reference for others to enjoy.

As a collection developed by high school students, it's no surprise that almost half of the recipes in this cookbook are dedicated to sweet treats, such as Chocolate Zucchini Cake, Hello Dolly Bars, and Spring Mint Pie. Other playful dishes include Bohemian Casserole, made with Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinner, and Raggedy Ann Salad, designed to resemble a Raggedy doll's face.

This softcover cookbook is in excellent condition and would make a unique gift for a graduate of Wyoming High School.

Community cookbooks are more than just recipe collections; they offer a unique look into American society and culture of the past...

Originally created and used by women's groups for charitable purposes, these cookbooks contain valuable information on cooking techniques, kitchen tools, and household advice. They also serve as unofficial historical records, providing insight into the norms and values of the time period.

The first of these charity cookbooks in America, A Poetical Cookbook by Maria J. Moss, was published in 1864 to raise funds for injured Union soldiers during the Civil War.

Today, community cookbooks continue to be successful fundraisers for Junior Leagues, church groups, school organizations, hospital auxiliaries and other charitable groups across the country.
