The score and lyrics for ON TREASURE ISLAND written and composed by Edgar Leslie and Joe Burke was published by the Joe Morris Music Company of New York City in 1935. The song quickly became a hit for Tommy Dorsey who recorded it with Victor Records (25144-B).
The cover illustration by Cliff Miska is ideal for framing, featuring a man and woman on a small island surrounded by calm waters, their dinghy pulled ashore and a yacht visible in the background. It is in excellent condition other than the previous owner's name penned on the top right front cover, with no creasing or tears, and comes ready to display in a protective sleeve. The publishing company uses the back cover to advertise other works.
Edgar Leslie (1885-1976) and Joe Burke (1884-1950) were two of the most prolific composers and lyricists of their time, collaborating on a number of musical hits throughout the 1930s and 1940s. This sheet music cover recognizes the past collaboration of its composers with a caption reading, "Writers of 'In a Little Gypsy Tea Room'", beneath their names.
