Idabelle Smith (1874-1954), was a talented American female composer married to Harvey Samuel Firestone, founder of Firestone Tire & Rubber Company.
Released in 1940, IF I COULD TELL YOU was one of Firestone's many compositions. In 1941, she collaborated with Madeleine Marshall, a Juilliard professor, to write ballad style lyrics for the song, which were dedicated to Firestone's late husband Harvey and their daughter, Elizabeth, both who had passed away a few years prior.
For several years the IF I COULD TELL YOU was the theme song for the classical music radio and television program, Voice of Firestone, sponsored by the family company. Richard Crooks also recorded a version of it for Victor Records.
The sheet music with lyrics is in excellent condition, except for a minor tear on the interior sheet. It comes with the Baldwin Piano store stamp, yet no other discernible markings. This sheet music was published by G. Schirm, Inc. in New York and comes in an archival-grade protective sleeve for long-term preservation.
