A GREAT FIND FOR COLLECTORS OF IRONSTONE!

This listing is for a lovely RARE antique white English ironstone COVERED SUGAR BOWL or UTILITY JAR by Jacob Furnival.  Jacob Furnival founded his pottery factory in Cobridge, England around 1845 and manufactured ironstone for twenty years. This piece is circa 1850.

The beautiful polychrome transfer piece is covered with flowers, urns and dragonflies in gorgeous greens, pinks and yellows on all sides. The transfer decoration also covers the edge of the lid, which is topped with a finial shaped like a flower bud ready to bloom. The sugar bowl's shape is called Grand Loop, which resembles the shape of a cantaloupe and used during the 1850s.

The ironstone sugar bowl is about 5" tall without its lid and about 7 ½” with the lid. The bowl measures about 6 ½” in diameter handle to handle. The only mark on the bottom is the pattern name, AVON, centered inside a green filigreed rectangle. This pattern, also referred to as Staffordshire ware, can be found in flow blue. The piece was most likely not imported to the Americas during the 1800s as Jacob Furnival marked his exported pieces to America with J.F. & Co.

It is in wonderful antique condition with minimal crazing and browning, which is primarily on the inside.
