This RIB SWIRL BOTTLE, attributed to glasshouses in Zanesville, Ohio, is an example of Early American Blown Glass. Made using a light green color glass, it has a tall neck and somewhat lop-sided globular shape and the base displays a pontil scar. The ribs swirl gracefully to the left, showcasing the skill and techniques of glassblowing from 1820 to 1850.

Standing at 5 ¼” high and in pristine condition, this bottle is a near-perfect representation of the time’s expertise and craftsmanship.

About Zanesville Glass: During the early 19th century, Zanesville, incorporated in 1814, was a small town surrounded by forests and abundant natural resources like sand, potash, and lime. This was an ideal location for glassmaking and the first organized glassworks, White Glass Works, was established a year later. Others, like Zanesville Glass Works followed. Up until the 1870s, the skilled glassmakers in Zanesville were known for producing a variety of glass products, including window glass, flasks, decanters, sugar bowls, pitchers, pans, bowls, salts, flips, tumblers, vases, and more.
