DOUBLE BURNER HANGING LAMP The Angle Lamp Company Late 1800s
Antique DOUBLE BURNING HANGING LAMP manufactured by The Angle Lamp Company of New York.
The kerosene lamp has a raised embossed body decorated in a grape leaf design and comes complete with two 6" clear glass elbows and two 9" high milk glass trumpet-shaped ribbed chimney tops. The lamp measures about 20 ½" high with the handle. Not including the handle, the body measures 12 ½" high by 12" wide burner to burner without elbows or chimney tops. It is identified with The Angle Lamp Company in multiple places.
The top of the body is marked: THE ANGLE LAMP CO N.Y. and PATENTED IN THE U.S. AND FOREIGN COUNTRY.
The clear glass elbows are marked on the rim with mold lettering. The markings on the sides of the first elbow reads: THE ANGLE MFG and NEW YORK USA
It is difficult to see the markings on the second clear elbow but you can make out NO UNDER SHADOW on one side of the rim, which designates one of the advertised features of the lamp. Both elbows have small bubbles in the glass. Condition is good with a few small dents in the body and a pinhead size hole in the bottom. The tiny hole cannot be seen unless you view from the inside. The lamp has its original pull down adjustable chain and one burner has its wick. Rims of the elbows and chimneys have some rough areas from use. The lamp has not been electrified nor has the finish been brightened.
The Angle Lamp Company advertised their lamp as the "best of all kerosene lamps." Advertising compared it to gas--stating that the lamps were made be be "lighted and extinguished like gas," and that they were "replacing gas and electricity in homes that cater to comfort and health."
