WIRE BUN BASKET Heart Shaped Wire Handles Porcelain Plate Strawberry Design Circa 1890 - 1910
Produced primarily in German and France in the late 19th century, WIRE BUN BASKETS were popular on both sides of the Atlantic. These interesting baskets were made with wire frames attached to a variety of bases, including tin, porcelain, ironstone, majolica and even lithographed cardboard. Often these antique baskets were used to store eggs.
This circa 1890 - 1910 WIRE BUN BASKET is designed with a strawberries and butterfly decorated porcelain plate with burgundy red trim. The plate is shaped like a shallow bowl. The wire handles are formed into lovely hearts and the base footing is a fancy running loop.
The basket measures 8” wide without the handles. Side to side with the handles, it measures 11”. The plate is about 5 ½”. The basket height is 2 ¾” without the handle, and about 3 ¼” with the handle.
This antique piece is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or crazing to the porcelain plate and no breaks in the wire. There are no markings.
Would be a wonderful addition to anyone’s collection.
Just imagine this basket sitting on your table filled with antique hand-blown milk glass nesting eggs!
