THE STORY OF THE SHAKERS by Flo Morse offers a stimulating, graceful summary of Shaker beliefs and the group's way of life. Morse, a former writer for the New York Herald Tribune, has been called “a caring spokesperson” for the Shaker community.

In the 18th century, the Shakers emerged as a religious group in northwest England, breaking off from the Quakers and forming the Wardley Society. The group, also known as "Shaking Quakers", established their first community in America in 1787. Over time, they founded 18 villages in eight states, but by 2024, only two practicing Shakers remained in America.

This 112-page book, published by The Countryman Press, a division of W.W. Norton & Company of New York, was released in its 5th printing in 1986. Complete with black and white photographs and illustrations, the book is in excellent condition.
