This vintage sheet music features the iconic, Stephen Foster's SONGS OF THE SUNNY SOUTH, published by Mills Music in 1934 as a part of the Mills Collective Edition.
Stephen Collins Foster, known as "the father of American music", was an American composer known primarily for his folk music. He wrote more than 200 songs, including many that were used in the minstrel shows popular at the time.
This edition of SONGS OF THE SUNNY SOUTH contains a variety of Foster's songs that were commonly performed in blackface minstrelsy, such as "Massa's in the Cold, Cold Ground," "Old Black Joe," and "Nelly Was a Lady." Additionally, it includes "My Old Kentucky Home," the official state song of Kentucky since 1928, and "Old Folks at Home," designated as the state song of Florida in 1935 (though it was later revised due to its offensive nature).
The cover of this vintage sheet music features a detailed illustration of a woman in traditional Antebellum South attire, accompanied by a gentleman wearing a top hat and carrying a walking cane. In the background stands a grand plantation home, providing a glimpse into the cultural and historical aspects of the songs included in this collection.
The cover also features the NRA We Do Our Part logo and an advertisement for other Mills music on the back. The music measures 9" x 12" and is in excellent condition, with all pages intact. It comes packaged in a protective plastic sleeve.
