Royal Worcester introduced its Evesham china pattern in 1961 at the beginning of a new trend towards more informal and casual dining that would bring the humble casserole dish from the kitchen to the dining table. Named after the fruit-growing region near Worcester, Evesham was Royal Worcester’s best-selling brand of the late 20th century.
This white fine porcelain MEDIUM CANISTER WITH LID by Royal Worcester in the Evesham Gold pattern stands 7 ½” high with the lid and 5 ½” high without. The storage area is 5 ¾” in diameter and decorated with gorgeous vegetable fruit sprays—corn on the cob with husks, apples, peaches and wheat. Its lid features blackberries, lemons and apricots.
The bottom of the dish is stamped with the classic Royal Worcester mark incorporating the number 51 signifying the year the company was founded (1751) inside a crescent within a larger circle, with the crown attached above. The mark includes an N inside a diamond, dating the piece to the late 1980s.
The canister is in excellent condition.
