The IMPERIAL WOMAN is a novel by Pearl S. Buck first published in 1956. It is a fictionalized biography of Empress Dowager Cixi, who was a concubine of the emperor and on his death became the de facto head of the Qing dynasty.

Pearl Buck, the first American woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, was an acclaimed writer and novelist with a deep understanding of Chinese and Asian cultures. Raised in China as a missionary's daughter and later becoming a missionary herself, Buck penned insightful works that shed light on Asian and mixed-race adoption, making her a prominent figure in the literary world.

This first edition is in very good condition, despite the absence of half of the book jacket. The copy is a book club edition, as stated on the jacket.
