Early ROCKINGHAM-Type Pottery FIGURAL MONKEY Bottle
Uncommon ART POTTERY FIGURAL BOTTLE shaped as a SITTING MONKEY in deep thought. The monkey is sitting on a stoop with one arm crossed over his lap and the other holding his chin. The bottle is ceramic and glazed in a Rockingham-type glaze.
The 4 ¾” high by 2 ½” wide figural bottle is very similar in style and size to an early figural monkey bottle produced by Roseville Pottery of Zanesville, other than that the Roseville monkey is sitting on a pot and wearing a hat. Many early art pottery manufacturers copied designs.
The only mark on this bottle is an incised G inside a diamond on the base Unfortunately, we have researched but have been unable to determine the manufacturer.
The monkey bottle is in very good condition other than a few small chips around the finish/rim. There are a few glaze pinholes or pits from the glazing process. The original cork is intact.
