HAND CARVED DECORATED BULL HORN FISH SCULPTURE from Juarez, Mexico.

The fish sculpture was made as a tourist souvenir.  On the mouth of the fish, the artist inscribed the words, “No Me Olvides,” which translates to, “Don’t Forget Me."  It is also inscribed, Juarez, Mexico 1920.

The sculpture is about 12 ½” long and has two screw eyes on top strung with a tasseled cord for hanging.

Some areas of the fish sculpture are in fair condition—for example, only an “e” and the word “Olvides” remain from the “No Me Olvides” text.  Some of ink or paint used to draw the fish scales and eye has worn away as well.  On the backside, the mouth of the fish is chipped.

Even with the condition, the fish sculpture is a nice example of the rise of American tourism and cultural exchanges in Mexico immediately following the Mexican Revolution (1910 – 1920), which had temporarily interrupted tourism to the country.
