A TASTE OF GEORGIA is a regional cookbook published in 1977 by the Newnan Junior Service League of Newnan, Georgia.

An award-winning classic inducted to both the Southern Living and the McIlhenny Tabasco Community Cookbook Awards Halls of FameA TASTE OF GEORGIA is full of tried-and-true southern recipes and unique gourmet dishes.

It is a great example of a "community cookbook,' which were often published for women by women.  These cookbooks provide unexpected insights into aspects of American culture and public history at a given time in history. For example, in this cookbook, contributors use their husband's first name and last name with the title Mrs. with their first name in parenthesis. For some cookbook collectors and culinary scholars, their historical value far outweighs the recipes inside.

The comb bound softcover cookbook is in good used condition. The softcover does have wear on the corners, especially near the comb as can be seen in the last image. The images were taken close-up so appear magnified. Copy from the fifteenth printing in February, 1994.

About the Newnan Junior Service League: The League is a group of women with the mission of service and volunteerism in Coweta County, part of Metro Atlanta. Fundraising supports college tuition scholarships, cultural programs, battered women and children programs, Habitat for Humanity, and the Boys and Girls Club.

We strive to provide you the best in antique, collectibles and vintage items and do our best to provide you within the written description as much information, whether it’s the history, manufacturer or condition, for each item we sell.

However, we also recognize that a “picture is worth a thousand words” and ask that you view the photos we provide as well. Often, a photo can be more effective than a written description when determining if an item will meet your needs and satisfaction.
