Classic Mid-Century Kitchen Advertising Collectible

Add authentic vintage character to your kitchen with this original metal lithographed Calumet Baking Powder tin dating to the circa 1960s. Based on the General Foods Kitchen logo on the reverse panel, this example aligns with mid-century production during the brand’s post-war household expansion.

With its bold red colorway and iconic Native American profile trademark, the tin is a striking example of 1960s American food packaging design. The front panel features Calumet’s recognizable logo along with the nostalgic “Recipe Book Offer,” while the reverse advertises The Calumet Treasury of Home Baking, obtainable for 15 cents and proof of purchase — a charming reminder of an era when mail-order recipe booklets were prized kitchen companions.

The tin measures approximately 5 ¼″ high by 2 ⅞″ in diameter and originally contained 14 ounces of baking powder. We have not attempted to open the tin; however, it produces a slight rattle when gently shaken, suggesting residual contents remain inside.

Condition is consistent with age and storage, showing surface wear, oxidation, scratches, and areas of paint loss typical of vintage advertising tins. The lithographed graphics remain vibrant and highly displayable.

Collector’s Note

Introduced in 1889 by Chicago salesman William Wright, Calumet Baking Powder became one of America’s most recognized household brands. By the mid-20th century, under General Foods ownership, its bold red tins had become staples in kitchens across the country.

Vintage Calumet tins are sought after by collectors of American advertising, kitchenalia, and mid-century pantry décor, valued for their iconic graphics and enduring brand recognition.

A 1931 edition of The Calumet Baking Book is available separately within our Vintage Recipe Pamphlets collection.
