1946 Winter Wonderland Classic Snowy Cabin Capital Records Cover
A 1946 Bregman, Vocco & Conn edition issued to promote the Capitol Records recording by Johnny Mercer and The Pied Pipers. This mid-century printing connects one of America’s most enduring holiday standards to Mercer’s postwar vocal career, making it especially appealing to collectors of classic American songbook artists and Capitol Records-era jazz vocalists.
Originally written in 1934 by Felix Bernard (music) and Richard B. Smith (lyrics), Winter Wonderland quickly became a seasonal favorite. Smith penned the lyrics while recovering from tuberculosis in New York, drawing on imagery of romance and snow-covered scenery.
This 1946 edition was issued by Bregman, Vocco & Conn of New York and markets the Capitol Records recording by Johnny Mercer and The Pied Pipers (recorded August 29, 1946). The cover features rolling snow-covered mountains, a vivid red cabin, skiers in motion, and a circular inset portrait of Mercer and his ensemble — a classic example of mid-century holiday sheet music design.
Condition is good to fair, with visible water damage to the lower right corner, scattered browning, edge wear, and penciled musician notes inside. Despite condition flaws, it remains collectible for seasonal décor, music history, or holiday display.
The bold red cabin against rolling blue snowfields captures classic mid-century winter illustration style. Beautifully matted in crisp white or soft ivory, it works well in seasonal décor, a ski lodge setting, or a music room honoring classic American vocalists such as Johnny Mercer and the Capitol Records era.

From classical masterpieces to the spirited energy of the Jazz Age, vintage sheet music reflects how music shaped culture across generations. First editions of composers like Chopin or Gershwin are especially coveted, treasured for their historical and monetary worth. As Smithsonian Magazine notes, these artifacts provide a vivid window into America’s musical and cultural evolution.
Collectors often cherish sheet music not only for its sound but for its striking cover art. Displayed as décor, it brings warmth and character to any room. Others breathe new life into old pages through creative projects—turning them into artwork, journals, or crafts that merge nostalgia with personal style.
