Hand-Painted Black Forest Chalet Relief Plate, West Germany

Warm, nostalgic, and richly textured, this hand-painted relief wall plate captures the charm of Germany’s Schwarzwald (Black Forest) countryside. The raised, sculptural design depicts a traditional chalet-style farmhouse nestled among rolling green hills, tall pines, and distant mountains — a classic alpine scene rendered in vibrant mid-century color.

Crafted in a majolica-style technique, the surface features dimensional relief modeling with hand-painted detail that gives the landscape depth and character. The glossy glaze enhances the rich greens, browns, and sky blues, creating a lively, almost storybook quality.

The reverse is stamped Made in Western Germany, dating the piece to post-1949, with most examples like this produced during the 1950s West German ceramic revival. The back also shows impressed number 2215, the Schwarzwald Baden mark, and two factory holes for easy wall hanging. At 13" in diameter, it makes a striking display piece for a kitchen, cabin, chalet, or vintage European décor collection.

🏡 Collector’s Note: After WWII, West German ceramics became known for richly glazed relief wall plates depicting pastoral European scenes. Today, these mid-century decorator plates are popular for cabin, chalet, and cottage-style interiors.
