Wonderful staging book!
The TOASTER'S HANDBOOK: Jokes, Stories & Quotations compiled by Peggy Edmund and Harold Workman Williams, was published by the The H.W. Wilson Company in 1916. This copy is from the third edition, third reprinting in 1923.
The brown and orange illustrated cover features a charming jester glass raised and holding a carved head marotte, ready to drink to a toast. The letters "DD" are incorporated into the design, the signature for Decorative Designers, a book cover designer active from 1895 to 1931.
The 483-page book was a former library book. Inside the front cover are the Bond Hill Branch Library' personalized book plate, embossed seal and book's catalog call numbers. The call numbers are also written on the spine. The flyleaf page and the title page have tears but there are no other tears through the book. The hinge is loose and binding has loosened from the back cover. The letter N is written in marker on the bottom edge. There is writing on the back cover, possibly a previous owner's name or address.
