French Limoges Game Bird Charger Plate – Signed L. Coudert

A striking hand-painted Limoges porcelain charger plate from the celebrated Magnificent Game Bird Portrait Plates series, decorated for George Borgfeldt’s Coronet line and hand-signed by noted Limoges artist L. Coudert.

The beautifully rendered pheasant stands against a softly blended landscape of peach, gold, and green tones, with delicate grasses rising behind. The palette and painterly shading demonstrate the refined workmanship associated with early 20th-century Limoges studio decoration.

Borgfeldt’s Paris decorating studios often employed the mixtion technique — combining printed transfer groundwork with extensive hand painting — regarded at the time as one of the highest standards in porcelain decoration. The result is a richly detailed surface with both depth an d luminosity.

The 10" diameter plate features:

  • Elegant, scalloped rim
  • Raised molded border
  • Hand-applied gold gilt edge
  • Artist signature “L. Coudert” on the face
  • Coronet / George Borgfeldt backstamp
  • Drilled foot for wall display

Condition is excellent, near mint antique condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Only light, honest wear to the gold gilt at the rim consistent with age.

Collector's Note: Coudert remains one of the most respected and collectible Limoges decorators, and signed examples are increasingly sought after by porcelain and game bird collectors alike.
