The iconic SAN ANTONIO ROSE, a beloved swing instrumental, was first performed by Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys in late 1938. With its soaring popularity, the band added lyrics and recorded the song as THE NEW SAN ANTONIO ROSE on April 16, 1940. The 4-page score, featuring both the music and lyrics, was published by Irving Berlin Music Publishers of New York later that year.
Although it had a successful run in 1939 as a Hillbilly Folk chart-topper, the song quickly regained popularity in 1941 with its completed lyrics. For the next four decades, it remained the band's signature tune, returning to its original title. The lyrics are written from the perspective of a singer lamenting a lost love known as the "Rose of San Antone." In 2010, it was recognized as the 49th greatest Western song of all time by the Western Writers of America.
The blue cover showcases a photo of Bob Wills and an illustration of a folklorico dancer wearing a traditional dress. The back also includes an advertisement for Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs sheet music. Securely stored in an archival sleeve, the sheet music is in great condition.
