Roseville Jonquil Double Handle Art Pottery Vase with Sculpted Daffodils

A charming Roseville Jonquil double-handle vase featuring raised white daffodils set against a warm, textured brown ground. Introduced in 1931, this classic floral design remains one of Roseville’s most collected and recognizable art pottery lines.

This beautiful handle vase was produced by the Roseville Pottery Company of Roseville, Ohio, in their popular Jonquil line. The molded body is decorated with clusters of three white daffodils with yellow centers and flowing green leaves, all sculpted in soft relief over Roseville’s signature matte glaze. The dimensional flowers and leaves give the piece wonderful depth and shadow, creating an effect that changes subtly with the light. Early examples such as this were originally marked with foil or paper labels, many of which have long since been lost, and the vase is therefore unmarked, as is common for the line.

The vase stands approximately 4¼″ high with a rim diameter of about 4½″ and features double side handles. It remains in very good vintage condition with no cracks, repairs, or crazing, showing only a small glaze skip of about ⅛″ near one floral cluster. The colors are rich, the relief crisp, and the piece displays beautifully.

Collector’s Note: Founded in 1890 in Roseville, Ohio, the Roseville Pottery Company became one of the three major Ohio art potteries alongside Rookwood and Weller. Under art director Frank Ferrell, the company introduced many of today’s most collectible molded floral lines, including Jonquil. Production ended in 1954, making original pieces increasingly desirable to collectors.

Introduced in 1931, Jonquil represents Roseville’s transition into the Art Deco era of American art pottery, blending naturalistic floral motifs with cleaner, molded forms and earthy matte glazes. Today the line is especially prized by collectors for its sculptural depth and warm palette, and it remains one of the most sought-after of Roseville’s middle-period designs.
