The book, "RIVERVIEW HISTORIC DISTRICT 1866-1935: Tales of Villas, Bungalows, Parks and Drives" records the history of Riverview and its residents. Information and photographs were acquired from family histories, newspapers, city directories, and museum archives.

The community, bordered by a beautiful river and about an hour south of Chicago became known as Cobb's Grove.  Talented craftsman constructed beautiful homes for prominent Kankakee families on tree-lined avenues from the mid-1800s through the 1950s.

The 200-page hardcover book, written by Don des Lauriers and Mardene Hinton is filled with historical photographs and narratives describing the homes built by early families, including the style, builder and original owner biographies.  The architecture styles range from Italian Villa, Italianate, Prairie, Queen Anne, Vernacular, Colonial Revival, Bungalow, Mission, Shingle, English Tudor, Craftsman, Dutch Colonial, Italian Renaissance, Romanesque, Spanish Revival to Foursquare.

Two of the most well-known homes, Hickox House and the Bradley House were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1901.  Warren Hickox and Alice Bradley were brother and sister who had been raised in Kankakee.

The book is in excellent condition with no issues and a must-have book for anyone who loves historic homes or architecture!
