Nice piece of Republican Party memorabilia honoring Ray C. Bliss, one of the most important Republican Party leaders of the 1960s. Bliss served as chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1965 to 1969 and had been the Ohio Republican State Chair for the sixteen years previous.
The RAY C. BLISS REPUBLICAN PARTY LEADER APPRECIATION ASHTRAY is made of stoneware pottery and glazed in a mustard yellow. The MASCOT OF THE PARTY, AN ELEPHANT is embossed in the center of bowl in front of an outline of the STATE OF OHIO. The mascot wears a blanket with the words, OHIO and holds a VICTORY banner in his trunk.
