Bring the quiet beauty of Renaissance sacred art into your home with this tabletop reproduction of Michelangelo’s Pietà. Rendered in an alabaster-ivory resin finish, the sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary holding the body of Jesus after the Crucifixion, with softly modeled drapery and expressive detail inspired by the celebrated marble original in Saint Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City.
Place this Pietà on a mantel, console, or bookshelf where its sculptural silhouette can be appreciated from several angles. The soft ivory finish pairs beautifully with dark wood, antique books, brass candlesticks, and other religious objects. Its compact footprint also makes it a fitting centerpiece for a personal prayer corner or a quiet memorial display.
Collector’s Note
The Pietà has been one of Christianity’s most enduring subjects of compassion, grief, and devotion. Michelangelo’s interpretation is especially admired for its balanced composition and the contrast between Mary’s flowing garments and the naturalistic figure of Christ. This reproduction offers the visual character of the famous marble sculpture in a manageable tabletop size, making it appealing to collectors of religious art and Renaissance-inspired décor.
Measuring approximately 7 inches tall with a 6 ¼-inch-wide base, this substantial devotional statue is well suited to a prayer corner, mantel, bookshelf, or religious art collection. The front of the base is incised “PIETA.” This is a resin reproduction, not carved alabaster or marble.
The statue is in very good condition, with only a tiny chip on the base and minor surface marks consistent with handling. No other damage has been observed. Please review the photographs, including the close-up of the base, as they form an important part of the condition description.
Historical Note
Michelangelo created his marble Pietà between 1498 and 1499 for a French cardinal’s funerary chapel in Rome. The sculpture, now housed in Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, depicts Mary holding the body of Christ following the Crucifixion. It is celebrated for its remarkable carving, serene emotional expression, and harmonious Renaissance composition.
The subject of the Pietà, meaning “pity” or “compassion,” became a central image in Christian devotional art. Reproductions such as this one allow the work’s powerful symbolism to be appreciated in homes, chapels, and personal prayer spaces.
This statue is a later reproduction inspired by Michelangelo’s original and is not associated with the artist’s workshop or the Vatican.
