Coca-Cola Pause for Living Advertising Booklets (1956–1969)

Pause for Living was a quarterly lifestyle booklet published by The Coca-Cola Company and distributed free through local bottlers beginning in the mid-1950s. The publication built upon Coca-Cola’s popular “Pause” advertising slogan, presenting ideas for gracious living and casual entertaining where Coca-Cola naturally appeared as part of the gathering.

Each 24-page softcover booklet is filled with colorful mid-century photography, seasonal decorating ideas, entertaining suggestions, and vintage illustrations. Articles often appeared as continuing series from issue to issue, including topics such as decorating with collectibles, easy flower arrangements, and simple table settings for hosting friends and family.

Each issue measures 8"× 5½". The booklets retain their original saddle-stitched bindings and remain in good vintage condition. Some copies may show light wear or occasional staining on the back covers consistent with age and use. Most have the original mailing label on the back cover. Note: Images within the description may show examples from multiple issues. Each issue is sold individually.

Framing Appeal

The seasonal issues of Pause for Living were designed with coordinated photography and color palettes, making them attractive for display.

When framed in grouping, they create a charming mid-century gallery that reflects the entertaining style and visual culture of the 1950s and 1960s and display beautifully in retro kitchens, soda fountain themed rooms, or mid-century inspired interiors, where the colorful covers and lifestyle imagery capture the spirit of classic American hospitality.

Collector’s Note

Today, Pause for Living booklets are appreciated by collectors of Coca-Cola advertising, mid-century lifestyle publications, and vintage entertaining ephemera. Individual issues are also popular for framing or display, especially in retro kitchens or soda-fountain themed spaces.
