This song, titled O-HI-O, also known as "Down by the O-hi-o," or "O-My!-o!," was written by Jack Yellen with music composed by Abe Colman. It was initially performed in vaudeville by Gus Van and Joe Schenck with the Ziegfeld's Follies, and later by various other artists such as Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor, Arthur West, and Ted Lewis.
Renowned illustrator Helen Van Doorn Morgan lends her talent to the cover art for this sheet music, incorporating her signature in the navy and orange design.
The cover features a charming depiction of a courting couple and is enhanced by an inset photograph of seven vaudeville acts who performed the song, among them the iconic Eddie Cantor in "black face."
Published by Forster Music Publisher of Chicago in 1920, this version of the sheet music showcases a unique verse by Al Jolson on the inside cover, honoring President Warren Harding's Inaugural. Additionally, the pages feature music and lyrics from "Siren of a Southern Sea" and "Kiss a Miss." The eight page music booklet in very good condition, despite the front cover split from the back cover and a few minor tears.
