Homer Denney wrote and self-published MONOGRAMS in 1911. Although it didn't garner the same attention as his earlier works such as Chimes, Hot Cabbage, and Cheese and Crackers, Denney continued composing, often collaborating, making him a notable figure in the music industry.
The navy blue cover of this antique sheet music featuring a photograph of dancing couples from the Mrs. J.M. Wright's Dancing Academy, would make an ideal framed piece. The paper evidences age-related degradation such as foxing, discoloration, tears, and frayed edges with the cover separated.
About Homer Denney: During his youth, Homer Denney (1885 - 1975) demonstrated his musical aptitude on the piano, delighting his family and friends at gatherings and events. By the young age of 16, Denney was playing the calliope on the paddlewheel steamer Island Queen. His long-term career with the steamer ended abruptly in 1947, when it was destroyed by a fire caused by a welder's torch. Later in his career and despite his partial deafness caused by many years of proximity to the loud pipes of the calliope, Denney mastered the organ, playing at Cincinnati Reds baseball games at Crosley Field and other sporting events held at Cincinnati Gardens.
