Miniature HIRSCH BROS. & CO. SCRATCH JUG (2 ⅞") Circa 1890 to 1910
Low stock: 1 left
This miniature HIRSCH BROS. & CO. SCRATCH JUG, highly sought after by collectors, features the inscription "Compliments of Hirsch Bros & Co. Manfrs of Cider & Vinegar, Louisville, KY" scratched into its dark brown glaze.
Standing at just 2 ⅞" tall, it is significantly smaller than its 4 to 5" miniature jug cousins, making it a prized possession among miniature jug enthusiasts. Despite some minor imperfections such as chipping on the heel and spots of glaze loss, this jug is a valuable addition to any miniature jug or crock collection.
About Hirsch Bros. & Co: Founded by four brothers, Ben, David, Leon, and Lewis Hirsch in 1886, Hirsch Bros. & Co. established a vinegar plant in Louisville's West End to supply area taverns with a food preservative. As demand grew, the company expanded its product line to include pickles, sauerkraut, mincemeat, and apple butter, all produced with expert craftsmanship. A testament to their legacy, the company remained family-owned until 1995.
