Charming Montmartre Street Scene After Utrillo — A Classic Mid-Century Paris Print

Collector’s Note

Mid-century lithograph prints after noted European artists offered an accessible way to bring celebrated imagery into the home. Works after Maurice Utrillo—beloved for his atmospheric views of Montmartre—remain especially collectible, capturing the quiet charm of Parisian streets, cafés, and everyday life. Prints produced by Donald Art Company (D.A.C. N.Y.) are well regarded for their quality and faithful color reproduction.

This colorful vintage lithograph print on canvas sheet features Montmartre, after French painter Maurice Utrillo, and was produced by the Donald Art Company (© D.A.C. N.Y.) in the late 1950s. Known for bringing fine art into everyday interiors, D.A.C. prints are appreciated for their quality and enduring decorative appeal.

The scene captures a lively street view in Montmartre—the historic 18th arrondissement of Paris—complete with figures in motion, leafy trees, and the recognizable Vins et Liqueurs shop anchoring the composition. Utrillo’s signature style is evident in the textured buildings, soft architectural lines, and expressive color palette, evoking the character and rhythm of Parisian neighborhood life.

Artist Biography

Maurice Utrillo (1883–1955) was a French painter best known for his evocative depictions of Montmartre, where he was born and spent much of his life. The son of artist Suzanne Valadon, Utrillo developed a distinctive style marked by textured façades, quiet streets, and atmospheric light. His works—particularly those from his celebrated “white period”—captured the aging architecture and character of Paris, securing his place among notable 20th-century European cityscape painters.

Printed on a canvas-textured sheet, the piece offers added depth and visual interest beyond standard paper prints. It measures approximately 10″ × 12″ and is in near very good vintage condition, ready to frame and display. Please review all photographs for details of color and condition.
