Lunéville Opaque French Faïence Strawberry Design Rimmed Soup Bowl
Founded in 1730, Lunéville Faïence of Lorraine, France, ranks among the most celebrated names in French tin-glazed pottery. Renowned for its refined forms and vibrant decorative wares, Lunéville pieces remain highly sought after by collectors of European faïence.
This antique rimmed soup bowl measures approximately 8½ inches in diameter and features a charming strawberry-and-leaf motif in rich red and green tones. The decoration shows the soft haloing effect typical of tin-glazed earthenware, where pigments gently bleed into the glaze during firing—an effect often compared to flow blue.
The underside bears the Lunéville Opaque France backstamp, dating the bowl to the late 19th or early 20th century, along with additional impressed factory marks.
The bowls are in antique condition, with some light crazing and small kiln or rim nibs consistent with age. Sold and priced individually based on condition (see variant photos and pricing).
✨ Strawberry motifs were especially popular in French provincial faïence during the Art Nouveau era (c. 1890–1910), symbolizing abundance and domestic hospitality. Lunéville produced fruit patterns in smaller quantities than floral designs, which is why strawberry-decorated pieces surface less frequently today.
