Early‑1940s SOHIO road‑trip guide with 150+ vintage photographs.
Collector’s Note
SOHIO travel guides from the early 1940s are increasingly scarce, especially in complete, clean condition. Issued just months before the United States entered World War II having more than 150 vintage photographs and maps, it offers rich visual content, making it highly desirable for collectors of oil‑company ephemera, Ohio history and tourism, road‑trip culture, and pre‑war Americana.
Let’s Explore Ohio is a richly illustrated 1941 travel guide published by The Standard Oil Company (Ohio) as part of SOHIO’s promotional campaign to encourage motorists to explore the state — and to stop at SOHIO stations along the way. Issued as the Third Edition in July 1941, this 64‑page booklet blends advertising, regional history, and practical touring information in a format that captures the optimism of pre‑war American road culture.
The guidebook highlights seventeen tour areas, each introduced with a “Let’s Explore Ohio Tour Area” section featuring regional descriptions, attractions, and suggested activities. The publication is filled with approximately 150 black‑and‑white photographs, illustrated maps, and scenic views — from Lake Erie’s islands to Cincinnati’s riverfront, from historic sites to state parks. These images alone make the booklet a compelling piece of visual history.
Measuring 9" × 6", the staple‑bound softcover is in excellent vintage condition, with clean pages and strong binding. A standout example of early‑20th‑century travel ephemera and SOHIO advertising history.
