Early 20th Century Lambrecht Butter Crock – Regional Dairy Advertising

This antique Lambrecht Butter crock represents an early 20th-century example of American dairy advertising stoneware. Produced circa 1920, heavy crocks like this were used to package and market Lambrecht’s “Famous for its Flavor” butter during the company’s expansion beyond the Midwest.

Unlike the more commonly found Milwaukee or Chicago examples, this piece is marked, “New York – New Jersey”—a reference to Lambrecht Dairy’s East Coast distribution network during its growth years.

Measuring approximately 5" wide by 3 ½" high, it has a classic straight-sided form with a thick rolled rim typical of early butter packaging. Crafted in heavy cream-colored stoneware, the crock features a bold cobalt blue stencil reading:

Lambrecht Butter
“Famous for its Flavor”
New York – New Jersey

The crock has a hairline crack visible on the front and side and a small chip near the base. There is surface staining consistent with age. Despite these condition issues, the crock remains structurally solid and displays beautifully, especially with the strong cobalt logo intact.

Collector’s Note

Lambrecht Dairy Company was known for regional butter distribution and branded stoneware packaging in the early 1900s. Examples marked for specific distribution territories, such as “New York – New Jersey,” reflect the company’s expansion beyond its Midwestern base.

While condition issues prevent this example from top-tier collector status, it remains a desirable regional advertising crock for those building a collection of American dairy stoneware or early 20th-century food packaging.
