First Edition! Signed and dated by Author!

ICY SPARKS by Gwyn Hyman Rubio published by the Penguin Group with a copyright date of 1998. First edition copy signed by author with her full name and a handwritten date of February 7, 1999. Includes inscription described as a personal friend.

A New York Times Notable Book and the March 2001 selection of Oprah's Book Club®, ICY SPARKS is the sad, funny, and transcendent tale of a young girl with Tourette's Syndrome, growing up in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky during the 1950s. Narrated by a grown-up Icy, the book chronicles a difficult but ultimately hilarious and heartwarming journey, from her first spasms to her self-acceptance as a young woman.

The book and its dust jacket are in near fine condition, other than a small tear in the right bottom corner of the book jacket. There is some bleeding from the signed title page to its opposite side, the copyright page, as the author used a black permanent marker to sign the book.

About the Author: Gywn Hyman Rubio was born Macon, Georgia. Her father, Mac Hyman wrote and published the bestseller, No Time for Sergeants in 1954 when he was only 31 years old. The couple moved to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in the small town of Berea, Kentucky in 1980. In 2001 they moved to Versailles, Kentucky.
