Henriot Quimper Soleil Yellow Octagonal Faïence Dessert Plate

Bright, cheerful, and unmistakably Breton, this hand-painted octagonal dessert plate by Henriot Quimper is a classic example of traditional French faïence. The warm “soleil yellow” tin-glazed ground provides the perfect backdrop for a charming Breton peasant figure at center, framed by lively floral motifs in cobalt blue, green, red, and orange.

The distinctive octagonal form adds visual interest and is especially appealing to collectors, offering a refreshing alternative to standard round Quimper plates. Each brushstroke is applied by hand, resulting in subtle variations in line and color that give the piece its authentic, one-of-a-kind character.

Marked on the reverse HENRIOT / QUIMPER / FRANCE / XOX, the painter’s symbol helps date the plate to the interwar period, circa 1922–1942, when decorator marks were commonly used in place of initials. Excellent vintage condition; no chips or cracks; minor glaze variations typical of hand-painting

🌼 Collector’s Note: Henriot Quimper pieces from the interwar years are prized for their lively hand-painting and painter’s symbols. Small variations in brushwork and glaze are hallmarks of authentic faïence, not flaws.
