Antique Henri Chaumeil Strasbourg Faience Chamberstick Candlestick – Fait Main
This antique French chamberstick candlestick was handcrafted in the Strasbourg faience tradition and decorated in the DÉCOR STRASBOURG “fait main” (handmade) pattern by noted ceramic artist Henri Chaumeil (1877–1944).
The piece features an elegant Rococo-inspired silhouette with a scalloped sconce, scrolling shell base, and a sculptural handle terminating in a whimsical fish or dragon form. Hand-painted details in iron red, rose, and bright green accent the cream tin-glazed body with classic Strasbourg floral decoration.
The underside is clearly marked “DÉCOR STRASBOURG – FAIT MAIN” and bears Chaumeil’s studio signature, confirming its workshop origin. Pieces from the Chaumeil atelier are increasingly sought after by collectors of French faience, Quimper pottery, and European art pottery.
Condition is very good antique condition with light age wear. Noted are one small rim chip and two tiny flea bites on the handle. These minor imperfections do not detract from display and are reflected in the price. Size is approximately 5 ⅛” diameter at base × 3 ¾” high.
A wonderful example of early 20th-century French studio pottery, equally at home in French Country, Rococo, or European antique interiors.
✨ Collector’s Note: Henri Chaumeil’s “fait main” Strasbourg pieces were produced in limited, hand-finished batches, making signed examples far less common than later factory wares. Sculptural chambersticks with figural handles are especially desirable.
