This hand-carved and painted LONG-BILLED CURLEW SHOREBIRD is a beautiful piece of folk art.
The Long-billed Curlew is an incredibly long-billed sandpiper and one of the largest of the American shorebirds commonly found along the Atlantic Coast. A true "snow-bird", it spends its winters on the warmer coasts but migrates inland to the grasslands during the summer.
The paint colors of this replica are speckled deep brown to nearly blacks over creamy beige taupe with a grayish breast. The detailed feet and legs are made from forged metal and attached to a stone base. The eyes are black and amber glass.
At the highest point, the curlew measures about 11” tall and 15” long from bill tip to its primary feathers. The stamped artist signature on the bottom of the wood bird reads, AL SCHATZLE.
This piece of folk art would make a great addition to anyone's coastal, country or shabby chic decorating.
