On March 25, 1913, the citizens of the Hamilton experienced a natural disaster unparalleled in the region’s history. Within a three-day period, nine to 11 inches of rain fell causing the Great Miami River and its streams to overflow. By 2:15 a.m. the next morning, all four of Hamilton’s bridges had washed away. Some 300 buildings were destroyed by the flood waters and more than 200 people died.
