Charming Pre-War German Kitchen Novelty

A delightful circa 1930s German porcelain wall egg timer featuring a white-uniformed chef standing beside a mounted timepiece. Designed to hang in the kitchen, the figure carries a small yellow basket and is accented with hand-painted facial features and cobalt blue trim.

Stamped “Germany” on the reverse, this piece was produced prior to World War II export changes. The clear glass timer insert remains intact and functional, and the original hanging loop is present at the top for easy wall display.

This charming novelty would make a wonderful addition to a mid-century, cottage, or retro-inspired kitchen.

The figure measures approximately 4 ¼″ in height. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or areas of missing glaze. The glass timer insert is secure, and the porcelain retains a bright, glossy finish.

Collector’s Note: German novelty kitchen timers from the 1930s were popular export items and often featured cheerful domestic themes. Intact hanging examples with original glass inserts are becoming increasingly difficult to source.
