1947 Piano Solo with Sentimental School-Themed Cover Art

Collector’s Note

Mid-century piano solos with strong narrative cover art are increasingly collected for display. Olaf Scheldrup's music is sought after for its artistic value and historical significance.

Published in 1947 by Theodore Presser Company of Philadelphia, “Faded Memories” by Olaf Scheldrup Oberg captures the reflective, sentimental mood of the immediate postwar years. This piano solo evokes themes of youth, memory, and the quiet passage of time.

The cover illustration is especially evocative—two young teenagers walking hand-in-hand through a wooded path toward a distant school, while a box of keepsakes in the foreground displays school photographs, autograph books, report cards, and treasured mementos. Rendered in soft pink and green ink on a beige background, the artwork makes this piece particularly appealing for framing.

Born in Minnesota and known primarily for his organ compositions with spiritual and melodic depth, turns to the piano in a lyrical solo format—no lyrics, just melody and mood.

Remarkably good vintage condition with light pencil notes inside from the original owner and a small red star sticker affixed to the cover. No tears noted. Housed in a protective sleeve. Measures 9" by 12".

Framing Appeal

The school memory imagery and soft two-color printing make this a particularly frame-worthy piece.
