This listing is for a medium size WHITE ENGLISH ANTIQUE IRONSTONE shallow serving bowl made by Johnson Brothers England. The bowl is plain other than the scalloped rim.

Based on the mark, which is a crown below the words, "Johnson Bros England", the piece was manufactured after 1913. The pattern name, Royal Ironstone Ware is above the mark. There is a tiny cross mark or "x" debossed on the bottom. The 8" diameter bowl stands about 2 ¾” high and is in wonderful vintage condition. There are two small brown pit spots on the bottom side of the rim. Please review the photos carefully.

Johnson Brothers was founded in 1883 by four brothers, Henry, Robert, Alfred and Fred Johnson. They were grandsons of the famous Meakin dinnerware lineage. Although they started the business on a modest scale, by the 1940s, it had become probably the largest firm of earthenware manufacturers in the world, controlling a number of factories in England and abroad. The company joined the Wedgwood Group in 1968.
