Blue Danube Waltz – Deluxe 1942 Edition with A. Thompson Lyrics

Collector’s Note

1940s deluxe editions of European classics were especially popular during wartime America, offering a nostalgic escape through familiar melodies.

Originally priced at 40¢ in 1942, this Deluxe Edition of Johann Strauss’s beloved Blue Danube Waltz was published by M.M. Cole of Chicago and features English lyrics by A. Thompson. A timeless European waltz reimagined for American piano parlors during WWII.

Composed in 1867 as an der schönen blauen Donau, Strauss’s Blue Danube remains one of the most recognized waltzes in classical repertoire. This 1942 American edition reflects the continued popularity of Strauss’s music decades after its premiere, bringing Old World elegance into mid-century homes.

This edition measures 9" by 12" and is in great condition, with an intact cover and clean interior pages free of tears or wear. Housed in a protective sleeve.

Framing Appeal

The bright emerald, green cover features stylized roses and florals in soft tonal contrast — a striking Art Deco–influenced design that displays beautifully framed. This piece has exceptional decorative presence.

Why Collect Vintage Sheet Music

Collecting old sheet music invites you into a world where history, art, and melody intertwine. Each piece is more than printed notation—it's a preserved moment in time. For music lovers, history buffs, and creative minds alike, building a collection offers both personal satisfaction and the possibility of uncovering items of real value.

From classical masterpieces to the spirited energy of the Jazz Age, vintage sheet music reflects how music shaped culture across generations. First editions of composers like Chopin or Gershwin are especially coveted, treasured for their historical and monetary worth. As Smithsonian Magazine notes, these artifacts provide a vivid window into America’s musical and cultural evolution.

Collectors often cherish sheet music not only for its sound but for its striking cover art. Displayed as décor, it brings warmth and character to any room. Others breathe new life into old pages through creative projects—turning them into artwork, journals, or crafts that merge nostalgia with personal style.
