Betty Crocker's BAKE UP A STORY A Cook's Tour Through Storyland is a Vintage Recipe Pamphlet published by General Mills in the 1960s to promote its Gold Medal Flour and is great example of mid-century American retail advertising when store, food products, and new appliance promotions included branded cookbooks, recipe pamphlets and booklets as give-aways.
The contents of the 20-page pamphlet includes cookie, pie, quick bread, cake, yeast bread and snack recipes. All the recipes are based on a children's story book characters and have catchy names like Sugar Plum Dreams, Good Fairy Cookies, Silver Bells and Cockleshells, Camelot Cookies, Flaming Mince Pie, Jam Dandies, Jack-Be-Nimble Date Cake, Tiny Tims and Mr. Pickwicks. It is filled with fantastic colorful illustrations mixed with color photographs that depict the recipe name.
The pamphlet most likely came in a bag of Gold Medal Flour, is in good condition with no tears and appears to be unused. It measures 8" by 4 ½”. Does have age spots.
Would be fun framed for a retro kitchen.
