Featuring the CRUET from the 1876 CAPE COD COLLECTION by Avon reminiscent of early American pressed glass called “Sandwich Glass” that featured lacy, intricate designs, fine background stippling, and exquisite brilliance which reflected the superb craftsmanship of its makers.
Like early “Sandwich” glass, the cruet is of great quality and very heavy, weighing over 12 ounces. The piece measures about 4 ¾” high without the stopper and 5 ½” high with stopper. From handle to spout it measures about 3 ½” wide. The pieces is stamped Avon on the bottom and has the Skin So Soft sticker on the bottom. It is in great condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
The ruby red hue adds a vibrant touch to winter holiday and Valentine's Day décor, as well as summer settings featuring red, white, and blue.
Sandwich Glass and the Avon 1876 Cape Cod Collection: The Avon 1876 Cape Cod Collection pays tribute to the Boston & Sandwich Glass Works, founded in 1825 on Cape Cod, whose designs are well-known and highly prized. The collection was inspired by the classic Roman Rosette pattern; its name commemorates the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial and the region of origin for Sandwich glass. Avon produced the glassware through Wheaton Glass from 1975 to 1993.
