Antique Wire Bun Basket with Porcelain Strawberry Plate & Heart Handles
Charming and decorative, this late 19th–early 20th century wire bun basket pairs delicate wirework with a hand-decorated porcelain plate, creating a lovely blend of farmhouse function and European cottage style.
Popular in Germany and France around the turn of the century, wire bun baskets were used to hold eggs, rolls, fruit, or sweets while adding a decorative touch to the table. This example features:
- A shallow porcelain plate decorated with red strawberries, green leaves, and a small butterfly
- Rich burgundy trim
- Graceful heart-shaped wire handles
- A whimsical looped wire base
The combination of airy wire and painted porcelain gives the piece wonderful vintage character while remaining light and versatile for display.
Condition is excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing to the porcelain and no breaks in the wire frame. The basket measures 8" wide (11" including handles) and 2 ¾" high (3 ¼" with handles. The diameter of the attached plate is 5 ½".
Perfect for displaying nesting eggs or milk glass eggs, fresh fruit or rolls, wrapped candies, seasonal décor or centerpiece styling.
