Collector’s Note

This W.M. Guérin Limoges serving bowl reflects the enduring appeal of French porcelain at the turn of the 20th century—where refined forms met delicate hand decoration. Pieces like this were designed to elevate everyday dining, yet today they are equally admired for their decorative charm and timeless versatility in both traditional and modern interiors.

A beautiful antique Limoges large serving bowl by W.M. Guérin, France, dating to the early 20th century (circa 1900–1932).

The bowl features a softly scalloped rim accented with hand-applied gold, spaced at intervals to create a subtle rhythmic border. The exterior is decorated with delicate pink roses, green foliage, and flowing gray scrollwork, while the body is enhanced by a faint embossed pattern that adds dimension and texture.

Decorator’s Note

With its soft palette and classic French styling, this bowl works beautifully as a centerpiece or layered into a tabletop vignette. It pairs effortlessly with both antique ironstone and fine porcelain, adding a touch of warmth, color, and refinement to farmhouse, traditional, or collected interiors.

The bowl is in very good with no cracks or crazing, light wear consistent with age, and some darkening along the base edge (not visible in display).

Dimensions: 9 ¼” diameter; 3 ½” high.

Historical Note

W.M. Guérin was among the notable porcelain manufacturers of Limoges, France, a region internationally celebrated for its fine white wares. Founded in 1872 by William (Guillaume) Guérin, the factory quickly gained recognition for producing elegant yet durable porcelain for both domestic use and export.

Following Guérin’s death in 1912, the company continued under his sons before merging with Pouyat, forming J. Pouyat, William Guérin & Cie. Production continued until 1932, when economic pressures from the global financial crisis led to closure. Today, surviving pieces are valued for their craftsmanship, graceful decoration, and connection to Limoges’ rich ceramic tradition.
